Rotary Club of West Vancouver Sunrise, Meeting with Mayor of West Vancouver Mary-Ann Booth

Rotary Club of West Vancouver Sunrise President Matt Gul had his first virtual meeting this afternoon with Mary-Ann Booth, our Mayor of West Vancouver. Thank you everyone for your participation.

Rotary Club of West Vancouver Sunrise President, Matt Gul, had a virtual meeting Mary-Ann Booth, the Mayor of West Vancouver.  Our topic was what can West Vancouver residents do to protect against COVID-19. How can buildings disinfect their common areas such as intercoms, door knobs, elevator buttons, and common areas .

Also, how would we implement regulations for either one person or one "family" to be in an elevator at once?

Mayor Booth followed up with her staff regarding the questions that were asked during our virtual meeting. Please see her responses below.

a.       Owners and operators are required to comply with public health orders and are permitted to stay open provided they comply with the following:
b.       Only take-out or delivery service is permitted;
c.       Sufficient space is available to enable people to maintain a distance of 2 meters from one another; and
d.       There are not more than 50 people present at any one time.
e.       While this store has not been visited by staff, they should be able to limit the number of customers in their store (some grocery stores have signage regarding customer limits and also have staff member stationed at the entrance), and can also maintain physical distancing by using tape on the floor to indicate the only areas where customers can stand (also used at grocery stores).
f.        Businesses have also been advised to enhance sanitation plans and schedules and ensure staff are practicing proper hygiene. Implementation measures will vary from business to business.

Our second question was, "are there any obligations on landlords of mixed-use buildings to keep the common areas disinfected and enforce social distancing?"

We were not able to find obligations/ regulations specifically dealing with landlords of mixed-use buildings to keep the common areas disinfected and to enforce social distancing. Having said that, the Prime Minister, Dr. Bonnie Henry and all health authorities have been very clear about the requirements for physical distancing in all environments.
